NEW MARKDOWNS

(posted by pai)

How's everyone in the mid-Atlantic doing? I hope you have power so you can read this blog post. I'm sure cabin fever has set in and you're pretty much fed up of everyone you live with or chose to get snowed in. You probably thought it was a good idea to get together with your friends and get trapped somewhere together, but I'm going to venture a guess here and say that you guys drank all the beer, and now, after being in close proximity with one another for so long, you're not really liking them as much as you did on Friday. It's all fun and games until you get to the bottom of the bottle, no?

Personally, I'm a free bird. I have to be able to spread my wings. I hopped in my two door coupe and literally drove through a wall of snow to enjoy the freedom I am blessed with. It was all very Bruce Willis in Die Hard. I now know that the "L" on my shifter stands for "liberation" and "D" stands for "doesn't do shit."

This was me yesterday, except I was going faster and there was a huge explosion behind my car as I broke through the wall of snow. Really cool stuff, straight out of Project Bad Ass

Anyway, if you're on the verge of pulling out your hair, calm down, because we've got something for you to do, and that is click your way over to ShopFarinellis.com and check out the new markdowns! That's right fans, our awesome sale just got even awesomer, and spell check is telling me that's not a word, but I don't care, as I've already mentioned, I am a free bird.

You're probably wondering what I like, which is smart of you, I am an extremely fashionable guy and my opinion should carry a lot of weight. I really like the Wings + Horns Wool Nailhead Shirt, and at 40% off it's a real get for the frugal shopper.

Don't you think it would be wise to take advantage of this opportunity? We're in a recession, buddy. If you're a smart shopper, you'll hop on these new markdowns, and I know you're a smart shopper because you shop at Farinelli's. At the least you read our blog, which I write, and I am really smart, so hopefully that rubs off on you. So go, go, go! Shop our sale!

WINGS + HORNS MELTON WOOL BLANKET

(posted by pai)

Every now and then, there are moments in history when people come up with something brilliant and reroute the course of mankind. Let's take a look at some of those moments:

c. 1450 - Johannes Gutenberg invents the printing press, and suddenly everyone can easily print things. When I was in 9th grade, we watched a documentary on the top 20 most influential minds of all time-Gutenberg was number one. That has to count for something, because I imagine the people who made that documentary did their homework.

1765 - Joseph Nicéphore Niépce invents photography when he takes this photo:

The oldest known photograph ever taken, but you may know it as "some guy pulling a horse." Apparently there was nothing more interesting than this to take pictures of in 1765.

Years later teenagers will aim their cameras at their mirrors while making stupid faces and invent the "MySpace pic." Niépce made it so that we never had to remember anything on our own anymore, and also gave pseudo-artists around the world an "occupation." Thanks, guy!

1988 - Jean-Claude Van Damme invents the ass-kicking in Bloodsport, and I haven't slept well since:

KKKYYYAAAAAAAA!!!

1989 - Shortly thereafter, Jean-Claude Van Damme invents dance:

This is quickly turning into the best blog ever

2009 - Finally, Wings + Horns creates the Melton Wool Blanket. What's so special about this blanket? IT HAS POCKETS ON IT.

Wings + Horns Melton Wool Blanket in Dark Oxford
$216

Putting a pocket on a blanket is the biggest innovation in blanket design since the people who invented Snuggies put sleeves on one, and these pockets are serious business. There are a million uses for this thing:

- Watching college football bowl games in chilly January? Turn off the heat, turn on the TV, get under the melton wool blanket and put a six pack of Natty Light in the pocket-BOOM. You're getting your buzz on AND saving on the heating bill. That's what I call a double whammy.

- Reading? Grab your leather-bound book, get under the melton wool blanket, and put a six pack of Natty Light in the pocket-LET'S READ!

- Sleeping? Get under the blanket and throw a six pack of Natty Light in the pocket in case you get thirsty in the middle of the night!

I really can't get over this. Half the reason I wear pants is the fact that I need pockets so I can put my phone/keys in something. I might stop wearing pants all together and start wrapping my lower half in the Wings + Horns melton wool blanket. I'm sorry, but my comfort comes before outdated social norms that deem blanket-pants inappropriate.

Wings + Horns has truly changed the blanket game forever. We've only got two of these things left, so if you want to be a part of the revolution, go HERE and order yourself one!

JUST IN: WINGS + HORNS 3RD DELIVERY

(posted by pai)

Ohhhh Canada! Our 3rd delivery from Vancouver-based Wings + Horns just arrived and that makes me want to throw a party in the U.S.A., which just so happens to be the Miley Cyrus song I am blasting in the store right now! This is what I do when Mauro isn't in town... Anyway, the Wings + Horns shipment had all the remaining pre-order pieces that we had online (except for the boots, which hit a production delay but will probably be here in early-mid December), as well as two new pieces we weren't expecting including the much-hyped Melton Wool Award Jacket:

Wings + Horns Melton Wool Award Jacket in Dark Oxford (Black/Grey)
$625

This is definitely one of the most talked about pieces from Wings + Horns F/W 2009 collection. Why? Look at it. Look at it and tell me you don't want to talk about. I am this close away from referencing Bonnie Raitt's 1991 hit, "Something to Talk About", for the fifth time on this blog. Don't make me do it, because Mauro has threatened to fire me if I do it again.

The second piece that we got from Wings + Horns that wasn't available for pre-order is the Hand-Knit Hooded Cowichan Sweater:

Wings + Horns Hand-Knit Hooded Cowichan Sweater
$600

This thing is heavy like me after a soup, salad, breadsticks lunch at the Olive Garden, and I love my OG SSBs (Olive Garden Soup, Salad, Breadsticks) as much as I love this sweater. It's warm like a polar bear's outerwear in the winter time. If the warmth and design of it doesn't sell you, just imagine a polar bear in a sweater and tell me you aren't a little bit happier. You can feel that way every time you wear this. Now isn't that nice? Yeah, sure it is.

Everyone go check out the entire Wings + Horns collection online. Measurements for the 3rd shipment will be up this week and fit pictures will be posted next week!

NOW ONLINE: WINGS + HORN 2ND DELIVERY

(posted by pai)

Good news for everyone who's a fan of Wings + Horns: at long last, our second Wings + Horns delivery is online! It took much longer than expected to get here (thanks customs), but this is proof that good things are worth waiting for! We are seriously digging everything that we got in this latest shipment, but my favorite piece is probably the Tiger Fleece Shawl Neck Hoodie (available in 3 amazing colors):

Tiger Fleece Shawl Neck in Royal
$176

Tiger Fleece Shawl Neck in Black
$176

Tiger Fleece Shawl Neck in Grey
$176

There are infinity reasons why this sweater is awesome. First of all, I really like the gold zipper. It's a nice little detail that says "I know you have a hoody also, but mine is better than yours." Second, the fit (like most Wings + Horns pieces) is absolutely on point. It's slim and not bulky so you can wear a leather jacket or a heavier outerwear piece over top of it on days where it's so cold out you lay in your bed and cry in the morning because you have to get out from under your blanket.

Let's talk about my favorite thing about this item. Everyone knows Wings + Horns makes great hoodies and they make great shawl neck sweaters, but what happens when you combine these two amazing types of sweaters? You get the coolest hoody you can buy this season! No longer will you have to decide between shawl neck or hoody. No sir, you can now have BOTH, like you're Deion Sanders:

Oh my goodness, I've posted videos of Deion Sanders and Jean Claude Van-Damme (two of my childhood heroes) on consecutive days and for this reason alone, Farinelli's should be the only store you shop at! Also, I effing love Pizza Hut Stuffed Crust Pizza, but that's neither here nor there.

WHO IS PAI?

(posted by pai)

I can't say I wasn't looking forward to doing my own staff profile. I could talk about myself all day. So, where to begin? My real name is Payman and I am the assistant manager (not to be confused with assistant to the manager) at the store. What kind of name is Payman? A bad one, but I deal with it. Also, for short I go by "pai" which is pronounced "pay" not "pie." I do not come in a key lime or apple variety. I've never really gone into why I spell it "p-a-i" and not "p-a-y" but here's why: I've always considered "y" to be the asshole of the alphabet. I don't get how it can be a vowel only some of the time. I guess I substituted the flaky "y" for the "i" as a show of solidarity with the rest of the vowels.

You may recognize my torso as the fit model on a lot of the pieces on the website. I was chosen for model duties because my mid-section actually has the exact same proportions as Michaelangelo's David.

The reason why I was chosen to model clothes on the website
Wings + Horns Zip Cardigan
$176

Let's see, what else is there... I take my style cues from Jack Skellington from the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas. I've challenged Mauro Farinelli to twenty-eight (rough estimate) arm wrestling matches, all of which he has declined. Why? I don't know, but it might have something to do with the picture above. A couple years ago I spent a month growing a mustache. I thought it was cool, but girls didn't, they just stopped speaking to me all together. For some reason playing the bongo drums (read: slappin' da bongos) really makes me happy:

The happiest moment of my life

I really like the music of Taylor Swift, not just because her tunes are catchy, but because the lyrics truly speak to me. I was once told I looked like a young Jean-Paul Belmundo, and although I don't really see it, it is to date the best compliment I've ever received. I recently graduated from Virginia Tech with a major in marketing and a minor in being awesome.

And that's about it. That's pai in a nutshell. Cool as a cucumber. If you guys have any questions you can comment and ask-I may or may not answer (busy day today).

FALL PREVIEW: WINGS + HORNS

Wings + Horns, a Vancouver based line that first gained notoriety for their high-quality fleece items, is one of our most popular labels here at Farinelli's. While they've continue to make their trademark hoodies and other fleece pieces, the brand has been expanding into oxfords, flannels, and chinos.

Recently, while going through some of our favorite blogs, we came across pictures of their upcoming Fall/Winter '09 collection, and needless to say, we got that sartorial itch. Here are a couple of our favorite pieces from the upcoming collection:

Wings+ Horns might be Canadian for "stay warm and look sharp in the winter." We love the over-sized pockets on these jackets. Also, the brown buttons on the navy really set it off.

The pockets on the front are a nice touch, and the blue is a really great shade. And yes, you do need another light blue button-down.

And finally, the pièce de résistance. This leather-sleeved varsity jacket is on my must have list for F/W '09.

Stay tuned for our first shipment of Wings + Horns in the Fall!

Oh, the Excitement!

(posted by pai)

I'm sitting at work downright giddy about how banana pancakes the next few days are going to be here at the store. If all goes according to plan, within the next 48 hours, we will be receiving about twelve giant boxes filled with the following:

Wings + Horns Service Boot (Brown, but we will have black also!)

and the most highly anticipated item since the iPhone 3G...

Crate vs. Farinelli's Limited Edition Slim/Straight Jeans

Until they arrive, I will be feeding my excitement by playing a lot of Phil Collins in the store while standing at the window looking down the street for the UPS guy. Keep your eye on the blog as we will probably be updating with pictures and things like that as they arrive (this is assuming we get a second between opening boxes).
